Sourdough Series: Blog 1 - A sourdough journey at 7,500 feet

When I stopped working full time, I had time on my hands and I wanted to fill it with fun, educational, and fulfilling things. My husband, CC, and I took a short trip to Nebraska and on that trip a friend and I decided to begin a sourdough journey together. I had no idea what I was getting myself into!

I quickly learned that sourdough has a mind of its own. It’s not just flour, water, and salt. It takes a life of its own depending on variables such as temperature, humidity, and altitude. Living at 7,500 feet in a cool, semi-arid climate there were adjustments to make. And it's dependent on whether I was baking in the winter or summer, on a dry or humid day, and (get this!) if there is a storm coming in and the barometric pressure is changing.

Every journey starts the same way - with a starter. I made mine from scratch and looking back, that was the easiest part of the whole adventure!

Follow and try, share with me your results, and let's have fun together!
